In Liverpool and St Helens - Labour has swept the Lib Dem's out of office and retaken control of both councils.
In neighbouring Warrington - Labour is now the largest party - which should eventually see an end to the disasterous Lib Dem -Tory alliance there.
Nationally - Labour wins control of 15 local authorities & gains 420 seats. (Scroll down to read)
Labour made sweeping gains in local council elections on May 6th, 2010. Winning control of 15 authorities, the party took three councils from the Tories and one from the Liberal Democrats as it gained more than 400 seats across England.
The news helps Labour re-build its presence in local government after serious losses in recent years.
Town halls where the party is now in charge include Hartlepool, Liverpool, Coventry, Doncaster, Camden, Ealing, Enfield, Hounslow, Islington and Oxford.
Nick Clegg becomes puppet Deputy PM in Tory led government.
Nationally, the Lib Dem's have opted to support the tories in government.
Here's a quote from the introduction to Nick Clegg's personal manifesto,
"If progressives are to avoid being marginalised by an ideologically-barren Conservative party, bereft of any discernible convictions other than a sense of entitlement that is now their turn to govern, then the progressive forces in British politics must regroup under a new banner."
Now we know the banner's colour.

Four Lib Dem's have resigned their previous party whip & now stand as Independents in the Council. (For the Windmill Hill; Halton Brook; Castlefields & Mersey wards - all in Runcorn)
The first councillor left shortly after the Lib Dem's coalition deal with the Tories nationally. The next three councillors left at the end of August, after recent Coalition government cuts.
In October, 2010 a Tory councillor went Independent - (in Widnes) after disagreements with the hard line leadership of the Tory group.
