Heat or Eat ? June, 2011.
The June 8th report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has once again highlighted the important issue of fuel poverty, particularly among the older generation.
The report highlights that the poorest pensioner households cut their food spending during very cold spells of weather in order to cover the cost of heating.
It is wrong that anyone should ever have to choose between staying warm or eating. The Government must look again at the support provided to vulnerable customers who experience fuel poverty.
The news comes a day after Scottish Power announced it was to increase the cost of gas by 19% and the cost of electricity by 10% from 1 August. This will affect 2.4 million households.
